“I’m Shenthan, currently concluding my Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) and Business Management at the University of Technology Sydney.”

Before joining us at LOKA Consulting Engineers, Shenthan was eager to put the theories he had learned at university into practice and gain a deeper understanding of how engineering principles are applied to real-world projects.

“Before starting my internship, I was looking forward to seeing how the concepts I had studied at university would be used in practice. During my time at LOKA, I gained hands-on experience across a variety of engineering disciplines and developed a much broader understanding of the engineering design process.”

Through our structured mentoring program, Shenthan worked on a diverse range of projects, including:

• Stormwater drainage design, from basement and ground-level drainage systems through to roof drainage, On-Site Detention (OSD) systems, and Erosion and Sediment Control Plans (ESCPs)
• Analysing site conditions, sizing drainage infrastructure, and understanding how rainfall, catchment areas, and site constraints influence design outcomes
• Preparing Waste Management Plans (WMPs) and learning how waste storage and collection systems are designed to comply with council requirements while remaining practical for residents and collection services
• Assisting with Accessibility Assessments, Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) projects, and Traffic Engineering designs to ensure developments meet Australian Standards and provide safe, equitable access
• Learning how to navigate Australian Standards, local council guidelines, and industry best practices while developing proficiency in industry-standard software such as AutoCAD
